Knowledge for Sale: An Article in the July-August 2005 Utne

This has no direct connection to the annual conference of the American Library Association, but the July-August issue of Utne has a five page article on the state of the public library in the United States. Look on page 73 or click here if you have Adobe Reader. The author Chris Dodge (who worked for Sandford Berman) expresses deep concerns about how the economic and political world is forcing public libraries to adjust to mainstream culture at the express of alternative culture. This is essential reading for librarian and library lovers.
